Gold Out!
Sunshine Club collected donations and held an activity at Diamond Bar High School's football games. Attendees of the game wore gold to support childhood cancer awareness.
Supporting a Fellow Brahma
When Andrew Wang, a fellow student at Diamond Bar High School, passed away from cancer, Sunshine worked with student government and other students to support Andrew's family. They hosted fundraisers and hosted events on campus where other students could honor Andrew.
Sticker Fundraiser
To kickoff the start of the school year, Sunshine sold adorable stickers designed by their own club officers! Look at these designs! Students at Diamond Bar High School purchased these stickers to help Sunshine fund their upcoming events for the patients!
Halloween Event
To bring Halloween spirit to patients
staying in the hospital, Sunshine
members packed goodie bags at the
local park. These treats were later
delivered to CHOC for patients on
their oncology floor.
Bracelet/Mask Fundraiser
In June 2020, DBHS Sunshine Club sold bracelets and face masks for $10 each to raise childhood cancer awareness and support the LEGO Giveaway.
Halloween Sweet Treats
This Halloween (2019), patients and their families were able to pick up Halloween themed desserts, as well as fill their own goodie bags with treats of their choice.
Color Run
Sunshine partnered with South Pointe Middle School to host a Color Run during the month of September (2019). This run not only honored the founding president's brother, Bryson Yang, but also fundraised for children's cancer research.
Halloween Street Treats
Using the money raised from our September book sale, we were able to provide Halloween themed desserts and treats for pediatric oncology patients at Children’s Hospital of Orange County.
Guest Speaker: Bear Necessities
Sunshine Club partnered with Bear Necessities to host a guest speaker event for members. Bear Necessities is an organization run by Kathleen Casey that offers the "bear hug" experience to pediatric cancer patients! It was a great experience for members to learn about how others are contributing to the same cause.
LA County Recognition
Supervisor Hahn from Los Angeles County recognized DBHS Sunshine Club for all their hard work this school year! They have been working hard to plan events, raise awareness, and fundraise. Congratulations DBHS Sunshine and keep up the good work!
September Walk 2021
This year, Sunshine continued the annual tradition of raising money for childhood cancer research in honor of September being childhood cancer awareness month. They donated all funds ($3840) to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. HUGE thank you to South Pointe Middle School for joining in on their efforts and contributing to the cause!!
Be the Match Spirit Week
BetheMatch is an organization that helps find patients find bone marrow donors when they are in need of a bone marrow transplant. Due to the lack of willing donors registered on in their database, Sunshine hosted a spirit week to raise awareness. Sunshine partnered with HOSA, another club on campus that promotes medical and health education.
Bags of Love
For Valentine's Day (2020), Sunshine Club brought "bags of love" to patients at CHOC's outpatient clinic and inpatient oncology floor. The bags were filled with Valentine's themed goodies and stuff animals. Volunteers from the club assembled the bags with love!
WVUSD Board Resolution
Sunshine Club worked with the school board, resulting in a resolution being passed to declare September 2019 as the official childhood cancer awareness month in Walnut Valley Unified School District.
Be the Match Tabling
There is a shortage of Asian bone marrow donors, making it very difficult for Asian patients who need a bone marrow transplant. On February 9th and 10th, we worked with BetheMatch to advocate for bone marrow donations. We manned a booth at Hsi Lai Temple during their Chinese New Years event
Used Book Sales
Sunshine members sold used books every weekend in September to raise awareness and contribute towards finding a cure. Thank you to everyone who came to support!
Christmas Delivery
For the holidays, members of DBHS Sunshine Club worked together to assemble goodie bags. They wrote cute cards and decorated each bag with snowmen and Christmas themed images as well. All the goodie bags were delivered to Children's Hospital of Orange County just in time for Christmas!
Super Max & Bryce Card Making
After hosting Super Max and Bryce at our guest speaker event last year, they sent us cards to make for the pediatric cancer patients in Australia. Members got to write heartfelt images to the little warriors. It was a great experience and students got to make a difference in an entirely different continent!
Easter Goodie Bags
For this Easter, members got together at Ronald Reagan Park to create bunny themed goodie bags. We filled the bags with stuffed animals, Easter treats, and fun toys for the children at CHOC to enjoy! These goodie bags will be given to pediatric oncology patients that are inpatient, as well as any outpatient children in the infusion center. Happy Easter everyone!
Sept. Awareness Spirit Week
To raise awareness for pediatric cancer during the month of September, childhood cancer awareness month, DBHS Sunshine hosted a spirit week. Each day of the week had a different theme where students educated themselves, as well as their peers, about pediatric cancer related facts!
Holiday Toy Drive
To bring some holiday spirit to oncology patients, DBHS Sunshine Club hosted a Christmas Toy Drive. It was a huge success! Over 400 toys were donated to CHOC and City of Hope!
Raising Awareness
Sunshine hung banners at every school campus in the Walnut Valley Unified School District to advocate for childhood cancer awareness in our community and to fundraise for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Holiday Giveaway
For Christmas (2018), we were able to give handmade cards, hot chocolate sets, and chocolate to all the families on the oncology floor at CHOC.
