For many patients with blood cancers, such as leukemia, a bone marrow transplant can save their life. Donors can volunteer to donate their bone marrow to patients who are a match. Be the Match is the main organization that facilitates this.
While registering seems daunting, all you have to do is swab your mouth. Then, your tissue type is added to a registry. If you are a match for a patient, further testing will be done to ensure it is the right fit before any bone marrow is actually taken. Plus, recovering from the bone marrow donation procedure only takes a couple days at most!
It is truly an easy process and you can save a life! All individuals between age 18 to 45 are encouraged to sign up!!
